My grandmother was a beautiful person inside and out. Since I was raised by my mother and her, I
affectionately called her "Mama". Mama was a very talented and strong woman. She worked hard
throughout her life both as a loving mother and as an employee at Pillowtex for over 30 years. My
fondest memories of Mama was seeing her busy at work with sewing one of her many beautiful garments.
She was a very talented seamstress who had been sewing since she was the age of 13. Mama could sew
just about anything from clothes to drapery. She was an excellent cook and I miss her homemade plum
jelly and her peach cobbler. One main thing that I learned from Mama is that independence is very
important which she demonstrated on a daily basis. She was a strong, innovative woman where life had
brought her hardships along the way but she always managed to remain strong. I did not want all
that she has done for her family to go unnoticed and wish that I could had given her some kind of a
medal because she certainly deserved it. What I regret most is that I did not get to see her in her
last days. Mama would always be in my heart.
